Artist Bio

Jennifer Sarafin is a Connecticut-based artist, photographer, and educator with a BFA from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston (SMFA) at Tufts University. Exhibiting in Boston in the early 2000s at venues such as The Harvard Bookstore Café and the MFA’s Medici Society MFA group show and later at venues such as the renowned RJ Julia Bookstore, and Wave Gallery in CT, her work has long explored layered narratives of self and perception that ultimately address the idea of destruction and the devastation and possibilities therein.

Jennifer also has a Master’s Degree from Saint Joseph’s University , a CAS degree toward her PHD  from Sacred Heart University and 15 years of teaching art in CT., where she built and taught innovative art and media programs. Teaching and parenthood have deepened her artistic practice, fostering an affinity for diverse materials and mixed media. Her work delves into themes of suburban female identity, mental illness, and sexual abuse, using intricate layering of paint, drawings, photography, found images and rich textures as visual representations of the layered complexities of her subject matter.
