"The Necessity of Destruction"

Spring Cleaning, Mixed media on Canvas

The act of destruction is a vital part of existence. The different dimensions of destruction involve change, pain, growth, and an opportunity for becoming. The work explores these dimensions of destruction through not only concept but quite literally through process where, upon initial construction, a piece goes through a process of being destroyed or deconstructed multiple times until it becomes metaphoric for my life experience. It is necessary to experience this process in life to survive because we are constantly changing, and the process of change in and of itself is the process of destruction, as something or body is becoming something entirely different. This work is a result of a series of repeated processes of destruction, rebuilding and change which signifies what I, as the artist, believe to be the resiliency needed not just to exist, but to thrive.
